Mr. Krishna Prasad Dhakal assumed the responsibility of Ambassador of Nepal to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 6 March 2019.
Mr. Dhakal is also the first Permanent Representative of Nepal to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
He joined Nepal Civil Service in February 2003. During his career in civil service, he held a variety of positions in various Ministries and Nepali Missions abroad.
Mr. Dhakal served as Joint Secretary/Head of Division of Regional Organization (SAARC, BIMSTEC, ACO and SCO) Division from April 2018 to March 2019 and Policy Planning, Development Diplomacy and Overseas Nepali Affairs Division from July 2017 to April 2018 of the Ministry Foreign Affairs.
He has attended a number of high-level meetings of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), including summit meetings as a member of the Nepali delegation. As Head of Regional Organization Division, he was actively involved in successfully holding the Fourth BIMSTEC Summit in Kathmandu in August 2018. He chaired various meetings and sessions of the SAARC Programming Committee and attended several meetings of the BIMSTEC Permanent Working Committee.
He worked previously as Charge’ d’Affaires/DCM/Minister of the Embassy of Nepal, New Delhi from April 2014 to July 2017.
Mr. Dhakal was the Director-General of the Consular Service Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal from November 2013 to April 2014. Prior to this appointment, he served as Joint Secretary/Head of Economic Diplomacy and Policy Planning Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from March 2013 to November 2013. In this period, he played a crucial role in formulating a Directives of Economic Diplomacy Programs.
Mr. Dhakal served as a Program Director in National Planning Commission Secretariat, Kathmandu. He was the focal point of the SAARC Poverty Alleviation Program and BIMSTEC Poverty Alleviation Program. In the same way, he was actively involved in introducing and institutionalizing Managing for Development Results (MfDR) in Nepal.
Mr. Dhakal has long experience of working in the World Trade Organization (WTO) Division, Ministry of Commerce and Supplies as a section officer. He engaged in various multilateral trade negotiations under the auspices of WTO. He worked as an administrative officer in SAARC Information Centre (SIC) in Kathmandu from 2004-2005 as deputed by the GoN.
He earned his Master in Business Administration (MBA) Degree with a major in International Business from Ajou University, South Korea and Master in Business Studies (MBS) Degree from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. He also holds Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) and Management (BBS) from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. He has participated in various training and short courses including Advanced Security Cooperation from Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies (APCSS), USA.
Mr. Dhakal was born on 17 November 1978 in Kavre District, Nepal. He is married to Mrs. Januka Dhakal. They have two daughters.
