The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister addressed the 10th edition of the World Future Energy Summit today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. In his address, the Prime Minister called for the development of affordable and renewable energy to enable countries to grow and prosper. He underlined that the world reliant on fossil fuel and traditional energy cannot ensure affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Stating that the future of energy lies in clean energy resources such as hydro-power, solar, wind and thermal, he stressed that the identification and development of the renewable sources of energy and its judicious distribution together with clean technologies must constitutes the central pillar of global cooperation to ensure energy security to everyone.
He highlighted that Nepal offers an excellent opportunity to develop renewable energy given the vast potential of hydro power in the country and called for investment in this sector. He informed the gathering of the various measures taken by the government to encourage investment.
The conference is being organized as a part of the Abu Dhabi Suitability Week. Heads of State and Government and other senior leaders have addressed the gatherings.
On the bilateral side, The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister held a meeting this afternoon in Abu Dhabi with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nayhan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Both the leaders, while expressing happiness over the excellent state of bilateral relations between the two countries, exchanged views on further promoting them to mutual benefit. Investment in Nepal for the development of hydropower as well as in tourism and agriculture sectors was the central focus of bilateral discussion between the two sides.
The Prime Minister of Nepal appreciated and thanked the UAE Government and people for providing assistance to Nepal in the wake of devastating earthquake that took place in Nepal on 25 April 2015. He requested the UAE to support Nepal in reconstructing schools and hospitals that were badly damaged due to the massive earthquake.
The Prime Minister expressed sincere thanks for providing job opportunities to the Nepali youth by acknowledging their honest, loyal and disciplined character and requested to increase quota for semi-skilled and skilled manpower from Nepal.
The Prime Minister extended a cordial invitation to the Crown Prince to visit Nepal at the latter’s convenience.
His Highness the Crown Prince warmly welcomed the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister and his delegation. The Crown Prince expressed his willingness to visit Nepal. While praising the sincerity, discipline and loyal character of the Nepali workers, the Crown Prince stated that Nepal is very close to the UAE. Expressing his willingness to further expand economic and commercial relations with Nepal, the Crown Prince said that the Government of UAE will send a team of experts to Nepal to study the possible areas of cooperation and investment.
Earlier yesterday, The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister attended an interaction program with Nepali nationals living in the UAE organized by the Embassy of Nepal at the Embassy premises in Abu Dhabi. Welfare of the Nepali migrant workers and socio-economic development of the country prominently figured during the interaction.
The Embassy of Nepal hosted a luncheon in honour of the The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister and his delegation in the afternoon.
Also yesterday, the Prime Minister attended two separate programs in Dubai organized by the Nepal Business Council and the Nepali community. The Prime Minister highlighted the various measures taken by the Government to attract foreign investment in Nepal with particular emphasis on the development of renewable energy. He assured that the Government of Nepal will provide all necessary support and assistance to foreign investors willing to invest in Nepal and invited them to participate in the Nepal Investment Summit being held in Kathmandu on 2-3 March, 2017.
Talking to the Nepali community, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of utilizing their knowledge, skills and resources in the pursuit of socio-economic transformation of the country.
The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister paid homage to the martyrs at the Karama Oiasis Martyr Memorial, Abu Dhabi. A band of UAE Armed Forces offered salutation in honor of the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister will return home tomorrow concluding a three day official visit to the UAE.
